Engine Options

There are two engine options available to the operator. Which option you take will be dependent on how many hours you have on your engines at time of modification and your anticipated annual usage rates:

  • Continued Time Repaired/Modified -10T Engine Option: If your aircraft engines have mid-life times on them, then this option may be the better alternative. The cost of conversion would be much less. This option also does not include painting of the nose case section; this is an available option. See option 4 in the following text.
  • Overhauled/Modified -10T Engine Option: This option is for those engines requiring overhaul due to run out engines (or those that are close to maximum time limits).

There are three more options (four options for the continued time/repair engine conversion) that must be decided upon after determining which basic type of conversion you will use. The first two options are immediately below. The third option is impeller insurance which is explained in Option 3 in the following text. The Option 4 (Continued Time Repaired/Modified only) is explained in the following text.

Honeywell (AlliedSignal) is giving you an option of which hot section inspection and overhaul interval you wish to use in Option 1 and 2 below. One of these options must be decided upon prior to engine arrival at Honeywell (AlliedSignal) Phoenix.

Option 1:

This option gives you a time before overhaul interval of 5400 hours, two required hot section inspections and one gearbox inspection. The interval looks like this:

  • Hot Section Inspection 1800 Hours
  • Hot Section and Gear Box Inspection 3600 Hours
  • Engine Overhaul 5400 Hours

Option 2:

This option gives you a time before overhaul interval of 5000 hours and one hot section inspection. The interval looks like this:

  • Hot Section Inspection 2500 Hours
  • Engine Overhaul 5000 Hours

Option 3:

Impeller Insurance: This option is provided to reduce the Owner/Operator’s exposure to an additional bill when the impeller is determined to be non repairable due to normal operational wear. This option covers covers both first and second stage impellers. If an impeller does not pass the eddy current and dimensional inspections, the impeller must be replaced. The current price of a new first or second stage compressor impeller is $32,136.00 each (price may change at any time). If you do not purchase the insurance prior to engines arriving at Honeywell (AlliedSignal), and an impeller is found not to be airworthy, then the additional price of at least $32,136.00 for each impeller will be charged. If the impellers are found to be serviceable, there will be no refund of the impeller insurance fee.

Impellers scrapped due to abuse, FOD, improper maintenance, or operation will not be covered under this insurance. If the insurance was purchased and Honeywell (AlliedSignal) determined that the impeller is scrap due to abuse, FOD, improper maintenance, or operation, then one-half of the impeller insurance option price will be applied toward the replacement price of an individual impeller.

The pricing for the impeller insurance depends on whether you have a First Stage Impeller P/N 3108182-2 or not.

Option 4:

This option only applies to the continued time repaired/modified engine conversion upgrade. The overhaul/modified engine conversion includes this option in the price already as the engine is completely disassembled for overhaul.

This option gives the operator the the opportunity to have the nose case area painted as if an overhaul process has been completed. This option is very time consuming to complete. The continued time repaired/modified engine conversion upgrade in this area of the engine, is not required to be disassembled. In response to customer requests, Honeywell (AlliedSignal) will disassemble and paint this area. The disassembly requires unstacking the compressor area, removal of all bearings and races and reassembly/setup. This optional workscope must be known prior to engine delivery to Phoenix for timely completion of the engine conversion.
